Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program Competition Announcement

The U.S. Embassy is pleased to announce the competition for the 2009-2010 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program.  The deadline for submitting application materials is Friday, June 20, 2008, by 4:30 p.m.

Purpose and Thematic Focus

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program provides ten months of graduate-level, non-degree academic study and related professional experience in the U.S.  Successful Humphrey Fellows are mid-career professionals in the public or private sector with a demonstrated potential for national leadership and commitment to public service.  Since 1978, over 3,700 Fellows have been selected from more than 156 countries, including 25 from Botswana. 

Fields of study include: agricultural development/agricultural economics, business, economic development, finance and banking, natural resources and environmental management, and public health policy/management.  Women are encouraged to apply.

Eligibility Requirements

Botswana citizenship; at least an undergraduate university degree; at least five years of substantial professional experience in Botswana; demonstrated leadership qualities and a record of public service; little or no previous experience studying or working in the U.S.; and written permission from the employer to participate in the program, should they be selected.

Financial Benefits

Tuition/fees, monthly maintenance, international/domestic air travel, accident/sickness insurance, and funding for educational materials and professional activities. 

Application Requirements

Paper original of the completed (typed or computer generated) application, higher education degree certificates and transcripts, and two references.

The application form will be available electronically as a Word Interactive form on the U.S. Embassy website http://botswana.usembassy.gov

Application Deadline and Submission

Application packets should be mailed to the following address:  Humphrey Program Application,  Public Affairs Section, U.S. Embassy, P.O. Box 90, Gaborone.  Packets can also be hand delivered to the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section gate.  The deadline for submitting application materials is Friday, June 20, 2008, by 4:30 p.m.
