Information for Travelers
American Citizen Registration
United States citizens resident in the consular district of Botswana or traveling there for even a short duration are advised to register with the embassy as soon as travel plans have been confirmed. The Department of State's travel registration page https://travelregistration.state.gov/enables you to register through an on-line registration service.
Consular officers and staff provide emergency assistance in the event of the arrest, destitution, illness or death of an American citizen. They also pass emergency messages to Americans traveling abroad, and help those in the U.S. locate missing relatives. Consular sections issue passports to Americans overseas and Reports of Birth for U.S.-citizen children under the age of 18. They advise about the acquisition and loss of nationality. When necessary to confirm a document's legal validity in the United States, consular officers may perform notarial services. Consuls maintain information on elections in the U.S., as well as voting registration materials. Among other non-emergency services, consular staff can provide a list of attorneys, a list of medical practitioners, a consular information sheet and information on travel conditions in foreign countries, and may be of limited assistance to those receiving federal benefits. The doctor's and attorneys lists have been updated.
The Consular Section is open for American Citizen Services Monday-Thursday, 08:00-16:30 and 08:00-13:00 Friday, except for U.S. and Botswana Holidays.
