Recruitment for the 2008-2009 Humphrey Professional Development Fellowships.

The U.S. Embassy's Public Affairs Section (PAS has begun recruiting for the 2008-2009 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship, a one-year exchange program, which brings mid-level professionals to the United States for a year of graduate level academic coursework and related professional experience.  Humphrey Fellows are selected based on their potential for national leadership and commitment to public service.  Since 1978, nearly 3,000 Fellows from over 140 countries, including 21 fellows from Botswana have participated in the Program.

Fellowships are granted competitively to professional candidates in fields including: natural resources and environmental management, economic development, business, agricultural development/agricultural economics, finance and banking, as well as in public health policy and management.  Women are encouraged to apply.   Please note that the Humphrey Program is not a degree-granting program.

Eligibility criteria:      Botswana citizenship; at least an undergraduate university degree; at least five years of substantial professional experience in Botswana; demonstrated leadership qualities and a record of public service; little or no previous experience studying or working in the U.S., and written permission from their employers to participate in the program, should they be selected.

The Humphrey Fellowships provide: international/domestic travel, tuition/fees, accident/sickness insurance, monthly maintenance and funding for educational materials and professional activities.
