U.S. Donates Seventy-Five Thousand Dollars To Tebelopele For Zebras4Life/Test4Life Campaign
13 July, 2007
On Thursday July 19, 2007 at 1430 hrs, U.S. Ambassador Katherine Canavan will hand over to Dr. Jan Andre Raats, Director of Tebelopele Voluntary Testing and Counseling Centers, a grant releasing U.S. dollars 75,000. This grant will be utilized in the Zebras for Life Test for Life Campaign. The ceremony takes place in the U.S. Embassy multi-purpose room.
The Zebras4life Test4life campaign’s aim is to promote messages that inspire hope, life and behavior change, especially among Zebras football fans. The campaign idea came about in 2006 as a result of a Peace Corps Volunteer’s community assessments, which showed that the involvement of men—and especially young men-- in combating HIV/AIDS in their villages was limited. The resulting Zebras4Life/Test4Life campaign that was devised represents a combined effort from Tebelopele, the Department of Sports and Recreation, the Botswana Football Association, NACA, the U.S. Mission, but above all, from the Zebras team itself.
The campaign was launched on the 22nd January 2007. Since then, more than 30 villages have been visited by Zebras football players and over 2000 people were tested, since the pilot roll-out of the campaign in Kopong.
Members of the media community wishing to cover this event are strongly urged to confirm with us by noon on Wednesday July 18, 2007 in order to enable us to facilitate their entry into the Embassy.
