U.S. EMBASSY AND UNIVERSITY OF BOTSWANA PRESENT AFRICAN -AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL TO CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH

On Monday, February 11, U.S. Ambassador Katherine H. Canavan and the University of Botswana Library and English Department will officially launch a weeklong African-American film festival to commemorate Black History Month. The launch will take place at the University library auditorium. The ceremony will be followed by a viewing of “I Have a Dream”: Martin Luther King, a short film about the American icon whose presence on the U.S. political scene contributed substantially to a change of consciousness among the American people and its leaders. The film will be followed by a reception. (Please note: Attendance at the reception is by invitation.) All media houses are invited to cover the launch. Members of the public are invited to attend the film festival that will run from Tuesday, February 12 to Thursday, February 14 at 18:00 in the University library auditorium. The films examine the roots and conditions of slavery and go on to explore several important incidents in race relations in the U.S. that led to and sparked the Civil Right Movement. Summaries of each film are attached to this release.
